Dictate and get live, editable transcription using your browser's built-in speech recognition. Free, no download, no sign-up.
Texterfly never receives your audio or transcript. This tool uses your browser's own built-in speech recognition engine. Depending on your browser, your audio may be processed on-device or sent to your browser vendor's speech service (for example, Google for Chrome) — check your browser's privacy policy for details.

Typing is slow. This tool uses the speech recognition engine already built into your browser to turn your voice into text in real time, right on this page — no app to install, no account to create. Just tap the microphone, start talking, and watch your words appear. When you're done, edit anything that came out wrong, then copy or download the finished transcript.
Tips for Better Transcription Accuracy
🎙️ Use a decent microphone
Built-in laptop mics work, but a headset or external mic picks up your voice more clearly and rejects background noise better.
🗣️ Speak at a natural pace
Talking too fast or too slow both hurt accuracy — a normal conversational pace with clear enunciation works best.
🔇 Reduce background noise
Fans, music, and other voices in the room are the most common cause of misrecognized words.
🗨️ Say your punctuation
Say "period," "comma," or "new line" out loud where you want them — turn on voice punctuation commands in the settings panel.
Browser Support
This tool relies on the Web Speech API, which isn't supported identically everywhere. Chrome and Edge on desktop offer the most reliable, continuous recognition. Safari on macOS supports it with some limitations. Firefox does not currently implement this API at all. If the microphone button doesn't respond, try switching browsers before assuming something's wrong with your microphone.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this speech to text tool free?
Yes, completely free with no sign-up, no download, and no limit on how much you dictate.
Does my audio get sent to Texterfly's servers?
No. This tool uses your browser's own built-in speech recognition engine rather than a server Texterfly runs. Texterfly never receives or stores your audio or transcript.
Does my audio leave my device at all?
That depends on your browser. Some browsers process speech using an on-device engine, while others (including Chrome, in most configurations) send audio to their own cloud speech service for processing. Check your browser vendor's privacy policy if this matters for your use case.
Which browsers support speech to text?
Chrome and Edge on desktop have the most reliable support. Safari supports it on macOS with some limitations. Firefox does not currently support the Web Speech API used by this tool.
Can I add punctuation by voice?
Yes. Say words like "period," "comma," "question mark," or "new line" and they'll be converted into the matching punctuation automatically, when voice commands are turned on.
