How does the grammar checker work?
Your text is sent to the LanguageTool API, which checks it against grammar rules and patterns for the selected language. Errors are highlighted inline — red for spelling, amber for grammar, blue for style — and you can apply any suggestion with one click.

Does the tool save my text?
Your text is sent to the LanguageTool API for analysis and is not stored on Texterfly's servers. Your personal dictionary is stored locally in your browser's localStorage and never leaves your device.
What is the difference between a grammar and spelling error?
A spelling error is a word that doesn't exist in the dictionary (e.g. "teh" → "the"). A grammar error is incorrect usage — wrong word form, subject-verb disagreement, or punctuation. The checker catches both and distinguishes them by color.
Can I use this for academic essays?
Yes. The tool catches common academic writing errors: subject-verb disagreement, comma usage, word confusions (their/there), and more. For papers longer than 3,000 characters, check in sections.
What does "Add to Dictionary" do?
Adds a word to your personal ignore list stored in your browser. Future checks won't flag that word. Useful for proper nouns, brand names, and technical terms.
