Free Data Entry Speed Test — Measure Your KPH

This Data Entry Speed Test measures your typing performance in Keystrokes Per Hour (KPH) — the metric employers actually use to screen clerical and data-entry candidates, unlike a standard WPM typing test built for natural sentences. Choose 10-Key Numeric mode to practice touch-typing numbers on the keypad, or Alphanumeric mode for realistic mixed data like invoice numbers, SKUs, and zip codes.

After your test, download a results certificate showing your net KPH, accuracy, and benchmark rating — suitable for attaching to a job application. Want a standard words-per-minute test instead? Try the Typing Speed Test.

KPH Score Benchmarks

🔢 10-Key Numeric

12,000+ KPHExcellent
8,000–11,999 KPHGood
5,000–7,999 KPHAverage
Below 5,000 KPHNeeds Practice

🔤 Alphanumeric

9,000+ KPHExcellent
6,000–8,999 KPHGood
4,000–5,999 KPHAverage
Below 4,000 KPHNeeds Practice

Benchmarks reflect typical staffing-industry expectations for numeric vs. mixed-character data entry roles.

How KPH Is Calculated

Net KPH (the score that matters most to employers) counts only your correctly typed keystrokes, projected to an hourly rate:

Net KPH = (Correct Keystrokes ÷ Test Duration in Hours)

Gross KPH counts every keystroke you typed, including mistakes:

Gross KPH = (Total Keystrokes ÷ Test Duration in Hours)

A one-minute test at 150 correct keystrokes per minute produces a Net KPH of 150 × 60 = 9,000 KPH — comfortably in the "Good" range for numeric entry.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is KPH and why does it matter for data entry jobs?

KPH (Keystrokes Per Hour) measures accurate typing volume over time — the standard benchmark employers use to screen clerical and data-entry candidates, since these roles involve high-volume numeric or record entry rather than natural sentence typing.

What is a 10-key test specifically?

A 10-key test measures how fast and accurately you can enter numbers using a numeric keypad, ideally by touch without looking. It's a standard skills assessment for bookkeeping, invoice processing, and inventory roles.

Should I focus on speed or accuracy?

Accuracy first. Net KPH only rewards correct keystrokes — typing fast with many errors produces a lower net score than typing slightly slower with high accuracy. Most employers explicitly weight accuracy over raw speed.

Can I use my results for a job application?

Yes. Download the results certificate after completing a test — it shows your net KPH, accuracy, mode, and duration in a clean, shareable format suitable for attaching to an application or resume.

How is this different from a typing speed test?

A typing speed test measures WPM using natural sentences. This tool measures KPH using numeric and alphanumeric data — the specific format real clerical and data-entry job assessments use, which tests a different skill than conversational typing.

Need a Standard WPM Test?

If you're prepping for a general typing job rather than clerical data entry, the Typing Speed Test measures words-per-minute using natural sentences.
