Enable Round Up to round each person's share to the nearest dollar — a common and appreciated practice. Copy a shareable text summary to paste into your group chat in one tap.
How to Calculate a Tip
The formula is simple: Tip = Bill × (Tip % ÷ 100). For a 20% tip on a $50 bill: $50 × 0.20 = $10 tip, making the total $60. To split between 4 people: $60 ÷ 4 = $15 each.

Tipping Etiquette by Country
🇺🇸 United States
18–20% at restaurants; 15–20% for other services. Tipping is expected and forms a significant part of service worker income.
🇬🇧 United Kingdom
10–15% at restaurants, often if not already included as a service charge. Less common for other services.
🇦🇺 Australia
Tipping is not obligatory. 10% is appreciated at nice restaurants. Service workers receive a minimum wage.
🇯🇵 Japan
Tipping is generally not practiced and can be considered rude. Exceptional service is the standard expectation.
🇩🇪 Germany
Rounding up the bill (5–10%) is common. Tip is given directly to the server, not left on the table.

10–15% at restaurants in hotels is standard. Service charge is often included; check the bill first.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I calculate a 20% tip quickly?
Move the decimal one place left (10%), then double it. $48.00 → $4.80 × 2 = $9.60. Or just use the 20% button above.
Should I tip on pre-tax or post-tax?
Technically, tips are for service — not the tax — so tipping on the pre-tax subtotal is correct. In practice, most people tip on the total because it's easier. Both are acceptable. Use the toggle in this calculator to choose.
How much do you tip for food delivery?
$3–5 minimum for small orders; 15–18% for larger orders. Bad weather, long distances, or large orders warrant more. Delivery drivers often rely on tips as a significant part of their income.
What is a good tip for a taxi or Uber?
15–20% is standard. Round up to the nearest dollar at minimum for a short ride. For exceptional service — late night, help with bags, great conversation — 20–25% is appropriate.
How do you split a bill unequally?
Use Custom Split mode in this calculator. Add each item, assign it to the person who ordered it, and the calculator divides the tip and tax proportionally based on each person's share of the subtotal.
