Free Weighted Grade Calculator

Most classes don't grade everything equally — homework might be worth 20% of your grade, quizzes 30%, and a final exam the remaining 50%. Averaging your raw scores together ignores that weighting entirely, which is why a dedicated weighted grade calculator gives a very different (and more accurate) number than just averaging percentages by hand. Set up your categories to match your syllabus, enter your scores, and your current grade updates instantly.

How Weighted Grades Are Calculated

Each category's average is its total points earned divided by total points possible. Your overall grade is then the weighted average of every category you've entered scores for — categories with no scores yet are automatically excluded, so your "current grade" always reflects only the work that's actually been graded so far.

Overall Grade = Σ (Category Weight × Category Average) ÷ Σ (Weight of Completed Categories)

How to Calculate What You Need on Your Final

This is one of the most-asked questions every finals season, and it comes down to solving one equation. If your final is worth a known percentage of your grade, and you know your current grade and target grade, you can solve directly for the score you need on the final:

Score Needed = (Target Grade − Current Grade × (1 − Final Weight)) ÷ Final Weight

The "What Do I Need?" calculator above does this automatically, and also shows your best-case and worst-case outcomes so you know exactly where you stand before you even sit down for the exam.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you calculate a weighted grade?

Multiply each category's average by its weight (as a decimal), add those together, and divide by the total weight of the categories you've completed. This calculator does that automatically as you enter scores.

How do I find out what I need on my final exam?

Enter your current grade, your final exam's weight, and your target overall grade into the final exam calculator on this page — it solves for the exact score you'd need on the final.

Is this the same as a GPA calculator?

No. This calculates the grade for a single class based on its assignments and weights. A GPA calculator instead combines final grades across multiple classes into one cumulative average.

What if my category weights don't add up to 100%?

The calculator shows a warning if your weights don't total 100%, but it still works correctly in the meantime by proportionally weighting only the categories you've entered scores for.

Does it save my grades?

No — everything runs locally in your browser for the current session and nothing is sent to a server. Refreshing the page will reset your entries.
